Ts account, ms notebooks and sundry related notebooks and materials concerning his experiences and activities while a prisoner of war in Koan and Boei Glodok camps in Java (March - September 1942) and the camps in Borneo at Jesselton (October 1942 - August 1943) and Kuching (August 1943 - August 1945), following his capture in Java while serving as a 2nd Lieutenant with the 48th Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA. The collection principally records and excellently illustrates, especially with notebooks sewn and bound in the camp, original printed books used, an original hand made card index, and a privately published book compiled by his widow in 1991 after his death, the work of the 'Kuching University' which he organised and ran in the camp from autumn 1943 onwards to provide language lessons for his fellow prisoners of war (a precursor of the Bell language schools which he founded after the war).
