Ts account (19pp) of his First World War service, beginning with training in the 17th Battalion Highland Light Infantry (97th Brigade, 32nd Division) in Scotland, December 1914 - November 1915, and then on active service in France, November 1915 - July 1916, describing his wounding on the first day of the Battle of the Somme in an attack on Autiulle, before being transferred to the 8th Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment (70th Brigade, 8th Division) also on the Somme and later in the Ypres Salient, September 1916 - January 1917; then in January 1917 he attended an Officers Training Course at the Machine Gun Corps camp at Bisley and on gaining his commission was posted to No 164 Machine Gun Company (54th Division) in the front line near Givenchy during the German offensive in April 1918 before taking part in the Allied advance, August - November 1918; together with a ts history (149pp) of No 603 (City of Edinburgh) Squadron RAF, Fighter Command, October 1925 - February 1957, dealing particularly with the Battle of Britain and the Squadron's service on Malta, April - August 1942, photocopies of the Squadron's Intelligence Patrol Reports and Combat Reports, August - November 1940, and a photocopy of the Chief Instructor's diary from RAF Ronaldsway, Isle of Wight, January 1942 - January 1943.
