A large collection of well-written and interesting letters to his parents, covering much of his military career, and comprising ca 25 letters describing his service as Signals Officer of the 22nd Brigade (7th Division) in France during 1916, including an interesting letter written on the eve of the Battle of the Somme, and on the staff of the 7th Division in Italy, October 1918 - March 1919; a note on the annual training camp of the Rangoon University Battalion of the Burmese University Training Corps in March 1924; ca 70 letters relating to his appointments as a GSO3 at HQ British Troops in Egypt and Brigade Major Cairo Brigade, May 1928 - February 1932, including much detail about the Arab disturbances in Palestine (August - October 1929), the political situation in Egypt, the economies imposed on the armed forces, and the personalities of the senior British officers there; a few letters concerning his appointments as a GSO1 at the War Office, September 1939, as AA and QMG of the 1st Division BEF, December 1939 - April 1940, as BGS 2nd Corps in the United Kingdom, August - September 1940, and as DDSD in the War Office, November - December 1940; ca 20 letters covering his command of the 133rd Infantry Brigade (44th Division) during the voyage out to the Middle East and in Egypt and the Western Desert, April - December 1942, which are not very informative because of the censorship; ca 10 letters concerning his appointment as Major General in charge of Formation Training in India, February - June 1944; and over 30 letters covering his service as DQMG of the British Army Staff in Washington, August 1944 - September 1946, with many valuable insights into Anglo-American relations at that time.
