Ts memoir (7pp), written in 1983, covering his service as an Ordinary Seaman in the Hunt class destroyer HMS EXMOOR on 25 February 1941 when she was torpedoed that evening by an E-boat while escorting a convoy in the southern North Sea and describing how, after successfully getting out of his action station in the ship's transmitting station, he had to jump off the forecastle into the sea with other survivors from the explosion, managed to swim clear of the burning fuel around the wreck of the EXMOOR, was eventually rescued by a corvette but suffering from burns and smothered in oil, landed at Great Yarmouth and then ill-advisedly sent on by train to Chatham from where he was transferred to Stoke Mandeville hospital at which he received outstanding treatment for his injuries; together with photocopies (1p each) of the Certificate for Wounds and Hurts that he received as a result of the injuries which he sustained in the action and of a photograph of him in uniform taken in 1940. Bennett-Blacklock was later commissioned into the RNVR.
