Two photocopies of a ts memoir (159pp) written in 1923 from an original diary covering his service as a signaller training in Yorkshire and at Etaples with the 3/4th Battalion Cameron Highlanders (November 1915 - March 1917) and with the 1/5th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders (152nd Brigade, 51st Division), March 1917 - March 1918, serving on the Western Front, then as orderly room sergeant with the 51st Battalion Machine Gun Corps, (March 1918 - January 1919), giving detailed information on his daily experiences, including the action at Arras (April 1917), Third Ypres (July - September 1917), Havrincourt Wood (November 1917), Bapaume (March 1918), St Imoges (July 1918) and Cambrai (October 1918) as well as his enlistment under the Derby Scheme, his promotion to orderly room sergeant, entertainment and billets, the final Allied advance and Armistice celebrations, and the role played both by a signaller and the orderly room staff during a battle, together with a number of press and other accounts regarding the 51st division, a wartime poem against Clydeside strikers and Battalion operations orders for Cambrai, 1917.
