Photocopy of ts account (118pp written 1989) describing his youth in London in the 1920s, T A service with the Royal Artillery, mobilisation and training in 1939, service in the Western Desert (late 1941 - June 1942) as a Lance-Bombardier with 74th Field Regiment, 151 Brigade Royal Artillery, 50th Division, largely giving a vague account of treking in the desert, but also giving a good account of his capture near Mersa Matruh (June 1942), his good treatment at the hands of the Germans, terrible conditions en route to Naples and in POW camps at Capua and Chiavari, excellent descriptions of his escape from here after the Italian Armistice and of his feelings on being free, shelter by/life with peasant farmers in Zerna and villages south of there in the Apennines, being `caught' by partisans, serving with them, his eventual crossing of the Gothic line (Christmas Day 1944), repatriation and post-war return to Italy, with useful details of peasant conditions, German atrocities on villages, morale among POWs and partisans and meeting fellow escapees, together with a partisan laisser-passer.
