Well-written, humorous printed and original (more detailed) ms/ts fragments of diary notes (49pp and 41pp in a bound volume) covering his army service (September 1940 - December 1943) describing his call-up, training, army life (as a Gunner with an un-named Royal Artillery (RA) unit), its inanity, his attachment to a Camouflage School in Darlington and to the Welch Regiment (November 1942) where his training as an artist was used in producing officers' portraits, the boredom of his posting to the Royal Army Pay Corps in Leeds (January 1943), life in civilian billets there, OCTU at Oxford, and his arrival at RAF Medmenham (October 1943) for service with a Photographic Interpretation Section of the Intelligence Corps; accompanied by 37 excellent pencil, ink, oil and watercolour sketches, drawings and paintings by him of scenes and equipment relating to his army service.
