Two ms Midshipman's Journals recording his service in HMS LONDON, the flagship of the 1st Cruiser Squadron, Mediterranean Fleet (May 1932 - February 1934) and then in the Home Fleet in the battleship HMS MALAYA (May - August 1934), the destroyer HMS VENETIA (September - November 1934) and the battleship HMS RODNEY (November 1934 - March 1935); together with an interesting and well-written series of 110 ms letters to his parents offering a more personal commentary on his professional and social life in these ships, his earlier time as a cadet at the Royal Naval College Dartmouth (October 1928 - November 1931) and his subsequent service on his Sub Lieutenant's courses (May 1935 - July 1936), in the cruiser HMS EXETER on the South American Division (October 1936 - November 1939), in the destroyer HMS VIDETTE based on Gibraltar (July - November 1940) and at the training establishment HMS SEA HAWK in Argyllshire (August 1941); also ts copies of detailed lectures and articles written in 1945 - 1946 on the Royal Navy's anti-submarine campaigns in both world wars, his reports from the RNC Dartmouth (1928 - 1931), some of his flimsies (1934 - 1936) and a printed memento (12pp) of HMS LONDON's commission form 1931 - 1934. His letters home include useful references to the high morale of HMS LONDON's ship's company, civil unrest in Trinidad (June 1937), the Munich crisis and his feelings following the outbreak of war.
