Ms report (18pp) and two ts transcripts (21pp 1941; 9pp with 1 page ms notes, 1988) written in 1941 for his employers, The British India Steam Navigation Company, describing how he was captured in November 1940 while serving as 5th Engineer in the merchant vessel SS NOWSHERA, giving details of her sinking by the German raider PINGUIN in the Indian Ocean, his transfer to the prize ship STORSTAD, imprisonment in Bordeaux in very harsh circumstances, his escape from a train en route to Germany (March 1941), his trek across Vichy France to Marseilles, dealings there with the American Consulate, his journey into Spain, his treatment there while in prisons/internment camps and his return to Great Britain (nd); also an original letter (July 1941, 1 page) and a document in Spanish from the British Consul in Spain (June 1941, 1 page) issued as a bona fides for his status, and his registration of baptism issued on board the cruiser HMS COCHRANE, 2nd Cruiser Squadron.
