Sweater knitted by an officer in Oflag VIIB, made out of wool from unravelled woollen socks.
hand-knitted woollen sweater with small v-neck and woollen collar
A letter from the donor explains that the sweater was knitted for her husband by 'a brother officer (unknown) probably in Oflag VIIB although my husband did spend a few months in XC and a year in VIB before his two and a half years in VIIB. He was a member of Layforce and was captured in Crete after they were sent in to hold the beaches during the evacuation ... this sweater was secretly treasured by my husband ... I think I mentioned in my previous letter that it was made from unpicked worn out socks which relatives were able to send to prisoners through the Red Cross.' the jumper is similar in style and constrcution to EPH 1045 which was made by Lt Ronald Eastmann who was also a POW at Oflag VIIB.
