     How much does a commercial licence cost?

    Fees apply for any commercial use of media and depend on the intended use. Read the Policies section below for more information about common uses.

  • Non-Commercial Licence

    What is this?

    Embed or download low resolution (72dpi) images free of charge. Digital files of complete films or sound recordings available at cost depending on intended use.  

    How much does an IWM Non-Commercial Licence cost?

    Free

    Images:

    Click Use Image and Download where available and right click to save the image 

    Sound:

    Use embed code or contact the team to order a sound recording as MP3 digital file (at cost)

    Film:

    Use embed code or contact the team to order a film as MP4 digital file (at cost)    

    Order Film

    Our film collection is also available to view on IWM Film, a website designed for the needs of media professionals.  Registered users can create clips and download free low-resolution files for use as screeners

  • Other Copyright

    Not all items in our collection are available under the non-commercial licence due to copyright ownership being held by a third party. If you require assistance to find alternative media for your project, please contact our team.

IWM film material is released for commercial use under IWM’s standard terms and conditions subject to the essential requirements of the care and preservation of the original material and copyright. 

A fee is charged for the commercial use of IWM images. This is based on a scale of fees dependent on specific use. Criteria required for some of the more popular uses are listed below.

Books, magazines, newspapers, subscription journals

Price dependent on:

  •     the estimated print run of the publication
  •     the size of each image as a proportion of the page
  •    the rights required (single or multi-language, one country or world rights)
Web and electronic use

Price dependent on: 

  • the type of web / electronic usage required (e.g. app, mobile, website)
  • length of term of rights required (months, years or in perpetuity)

A set rate is also available which covers all forms of electronic / web usage.

Broadcast and film use

Price dependent on: 

  • territories required
  • length of term of rights required (months, years or in perpetuity)
  • media required and extent of transmission (broadcast only, online etc)
Exhibition/Theatre use

Price dependent on: 

  • length of exhibition
  • method of display
  • entry fee
Advertising/Promotional 

Price dependent on: 

  • extent and format of use
  • length of term of rights required (months, years or in perpetuity)
  • and/or print run
