Two Supermarine Spitfire Mark IXs, MA425 ‘RZ-R’ (nearest) and MH635 ‘RZ-U’, of No 241 Squadron RAF, piloted by Flying Officers H Cogman and J V Macdonald respectively, returning to their base at Madna, south-east of Campomarino, Italy, after a weather reconnaissance sortie over the Anzio beachhead.
