- The memorial was first erected in 1917, at which time it bore the names of the 38 officers who had so far enlisted (believed to have been recorded on a sheet of paper at that stage, to enable any necessary amendments re death or enlistment). By the end of the War 43 names were listed upon it.

- Cambridge Independent Press 12/10/1917 (page 6): reported the erection of the Roll of Honour board, which at that time listed 38 names (4 of whom had died), commenting that a further name was due to be added re a recent enlistment.
