  • Dundee Courier - Thursday 22 May 1919 www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000164/19190522/055/0004 FERRYDEN WAR MEMORIAL. At a well attended meeting held in Ferryden Mission Hall last night the villagers agreed to combine with the landward portion of the Craig Parish in the erection of a war memorial for the district, subject to the approval of meeting of the landward parishioners. The meeting adopted the site in the proximity of the Inch Bridge. Among other proposals made for the memorial were those of an arch gateway to erected over the extension of the burying ground of Rossie Island, a bowling green or recreation ground, and the raising of a fund to supplement the allowance of widows and orphans of those who have fallen. The meeting decided to remit it to a committee from the village and from the landward portion together with the Parish Council to bring forward a definite Proposal, and Messrs Joseph West, James Anderson, James Pert, p. Mackenzie, and Robert Pert were appointed to represent Ferryden. Mr WilMam Mearns secured the approval of the fishermen to levy a penny on every box of fish landed the by the fleet during the next year, and Mr W Pert, speaking behalf of the tradesmen in the village, stated that he would endeavour to raise one penny on every pound of wages paid by the tradesmen.
