Description
Names inscribed in gilt lettering on a large panel of green slate surrounded by a bronze frame. This was placed in a recess created on a background of Hoptonwood stone designed to harmonise with the vestibule architecture. In the arched head of the recess is a circular bronze plaque showing a figure symbolising Sacrifice before a trenched and shelled battlefield with a cross marking a soldier's grave. A wreath of leaves and poppies runs around the arch. The Second World War section is in the form of a table or plinth carved from Hoptonwood stone attached to the original. Placed upon it are three cast bronze plaques with the names in raised roman-style lettering. A back panel links the memorial table to the wall mounted First World War section. This panel is in cast bronze with the figure of St Andrew placed centrally between two relief plaques. One depicts a laurel wreath, the emblem of Victory, the other depicts the palm leaf, the emblem of peace.
