Description

Wrought iron gates with a dedicatory metal plaque placed on one of the gate pillars. Gold coloured latin crosses at the top centre of each gate.

THE 1ST. AND 2ND. INFANTRY DIVISIONS/ WERE FORMED IN 1902. THEY WERE STATIONED/ IN ALDERSHOT FROM THAT DATE UNTIL/ THE OUTBREAK OF THE GREAT WAR IN 1914/ AND AGAIN FROM 1919 UNTIL/ THE OUTBREAK OF THE WORLD WAR IN 1939/ THESE GATES/ WHICH ARE ERECTED IN THEIR HONOUR/ WERE UNVEILED BY/ FIELD-MARSHAL THE EARL ALEXANDER OF TUNIS/ K.G., G.C.B., G.C.M.G, C.S.I., D.S.O., M.C./ ON/ 29TH. JULY 1958
