- CREAM MARBLE TABLET SET INTO MOTTLED PINK AND CREAM MARBLE FRAME. INCISED BLACK ROMAN LETTERING. WHITE MARBLE CROSS IN MARBLE FRAME FORMS PART OF THE TOP BORDER. BOTTOM CENTRE METAL HAND WITH SWORD FIXED TO BOTTOM CENTRE. CARVED TUDOR ROSE FORMS CORNERPIECE OF FRAME.

- PRAISE GOD FOR OUR GALLENT MEN WHO/ SERVED IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918 AND/ FOLLOWING THE PATH OF DUTY AND SELF SACRIFICE/ GAVE THEIR LIVES THAT WE MIGHT LIVE/ (NAMES)/ Their reward also is with the Lord and/ the care of then is with the Most High./ THIS MEMORIAL IS SET UP BY THOSE WHO LOVED/ RICHARD GUY PURCELL, M.C., MAJOR R.G.A.,/ A GALLANT AND WELL-LOVED OFFICER WHO WAS MORTALLY/ WOUNDED NEAR TILLOY WOOD ON 28TH MARCH 1918,/ WHILST COMMANDING THE 31ST HEAVY BATTERY IN/ THE FAMOUS DEFENCE OF ARRAS.
