(This states of the plaque that it was unveiled on 2/5/1920, "at a service where Reverend M R Swabey of Little Sampford was the preacher. The church tablet has ten names, but the outdoor memorial has 14, and it is suggested that the other four were Chapel or Salvation Army both of whom had chapels in Hempstead at the time").
