Object description

Unedited film of a repatriation ceremony at RAF Wildenrath for three RAF servicemen killed in the Netherlands by the IRA on 1 May 1988: Senior Aircraftman Ian Shinner (shot near his base in Roermond), also Senior Aircraftman John D Baxter and Senior Aircraftman John Miller Reid (both killed by a car bomb in Nieuw Bergen).

Content description

Eight RAF Regiment soldiers standing to attention, flanked by Rapier missile launchers, as a police Range Rover and three hearses drive by. Three coffins are removed from the cars by RAF personnel and are carried to the accompaniment of Chopin's Funeral March and placed in an RAF plane. A flypast of an F4 Phantom and two Harrier aircraft accompany the ceremony. Assembled RAF personnel and civilians watch as the plane carrying the bodies taxies and takes off while the RAF honour guard march off the airfield accompanied by an RAF band.
