Ms diaries (31 August 1939 - May 1943 and Christmas 1944) in two pads, a pocket notebook and a loose sheet (total 106pp) describing his service in England (August 1939 - November 1941) as a sergeant with the 119th Light Anti-Aircraft Battery Royal Artillery (RA) and as a subaltern with the 89th Battery, 35th LAA Regiment RA en route to Singapore on the EMPRESS OF JAPAN, and during the campaign in Malaya and Singapore (January - February 1942) and as a prisoner of war in Tjibatoe and Tandjong Priok camps in Java (March - October 1942), on the Japanese prison ships YOSHIDA MARU and SINGAPORE MARU (October - November 1942) and in Ube camp in Japan (November 1942 - August 1945) including accounts of the fighting in 1942, conditions in captivity and the signing of a non-escape declaration.
