Our doors are now open, and we can’t wait to welcome you back to IWM North.

Your safety is our priority. We have made a number of changes to ensure your visit is safe and enjoyable. One key change is we have limited the number of people that can visit, so we recommend that you pre-book a free timed ticket before you arrive. This will give you even more space to explore the powerful stories behind over 2,000 objects, and immerse yourself in the 360-degree cinematic Big Picture Shows in our extraordinary exhibition space.

Help us to keep you safe

  • Book in advance

We will be limiting the number of visitors to each of our museums so that physical distancing can be observed. We recommend that visitors book a time slot in advance for entry and it is possible that queuing will be required to enter the busier parts of our museums.

We will be very grateful for your patience and understanding where this is required.

  • Social distancing

In response to Government advice issued 9 September, visitors must follow the limits on the number of other people you are now legally able to meet as a group.

Visitors are required to wear masks in line with government guidelines unless there is a legitimate reason not to do so.

Help us to keep you safe by adhering to the government recommendations on physical distancing. Where possible, please keep 2m apart from other visitors who are not in your household or support bubble.

  • Extra safety measures

Hand washing/hand sanitising points will be set up throughout the museum to ensure visitors can wash and sanitise their hands regularly.

We will be increasing the amount of cleaning that we do, especially in busy visitor areas, with special attention to stair handrails, doors, lifts, toilets areas, and any interactive gallery points.

Please read our Coronavirus FAQ for more information before visiting.

  • Accessibility

There is no change to accessibility at IWM North as a result of our Covid-19 measures. The lifts are open (we request that people only share lifts with members of their household), and wheelchairs are available on site on request. Accessible toilets and Baby changing facilities remain open on the ground floor of the museum.

We are committed to ensuring IWM North is fully accessible to all visitors. Please be aware that the building has been designed to encourage visitors to consider the confusion experienced during conflict. As a result the floor of the main exhibition area has a gentle slope and visitors with mobility issues may wish to take extra care in this area. There are also different lighting levels over two floors. For more information please follow the link to our accessibility guide below.
