For the centenary of the First World War we have digitised our First World War film collection. Our First World War film archive is one of the oldest and largest in the world.

Highlights of our film collections include The Battle of the Somme which is screened in IWM London's First World War Galleries.

The European Film Gateway EFG1914 project, coordinated by Deutsches Filminstitut, has enabled us to fully digitise over 200 hours of film, contributing over one quarter of total footage collated by EFG1914.

Together with over 25 European partners the project has digitised over 700 hours of material from the First World War. The films are now available through the EFG1914 Portal, the European digital library Europeana and a virtual exhibition, providing access to unique collections from across the continent.
