Project Description

This First World War History Hub was set up to research and produce an online archive that focused solely on the people and places of the Whitchurch, Shropshire and its surrounding area between 1914 and 1918. The project enabled the people of Whitchurch to develop their knowledge of the conflict and understand how it affected their community. The project was partly funded by a Heritage Lottery Grant and was undertaken by 8 volunteers between 2014 and 2020. Our website contains resources on the local men who served, those who died and are locally commemorated, Prees Heath Camp, contemporary newspaper articles, VAD hospitals and various historical images.
