Project Description

The 'Wales for Peace' project involved over eight hundred volunteers across one hundred organisations and community groups Wales-wide between 2014-19, in exploring the question "how, in the one hundred years since World War One, have the people of Wales contributed to the search for peace?" The Heritage Lottery Funded programme - an umbrella for ninety-two individual 'peace heritage' projects - was led by WCIA (the Welsh Centre for International Affairs) from Wales' Temple of Peace (built as the nation's memorial to the fallen). The project involved ten partners ranging from the National Library of Wales to Urdd Gobaith Cymru and it was also a major contributor to Wales 'Cymru'n Cofio' WW100 Centenary Programme. The legacy of the programme for Wales' Peace Heritage can be explored via the web links below, which include a detailed project record, evaluation and outputs.

Resources used for research

Principle sources were the Temple of Peace Archives, and National Library of Wales collections - although a huge range of sources were explored by volunteers and projects across Wales (summarised at 'https://www.wcia.org.uk/archives-and-collections/').
