Project Description

In 2014, an exhibition was held to remember the beginning of World War One, based on biographies of the men of Buckland St Mary who died, in the context of their time. 66 men from the village served and are commemorated on the Church Memorial Board. Their stories are due to be preserved in book form, via funding from an HLF grant. In 2018, a concert of war-time music, poetry and readings was developed in the adjoining parish of Otterford, and held in Buckland St Mary Church. Remembrance Day services were held in the churches of both parishes, whilst the local school also conducted in-depth artwork and writing projects into the stories of those men from Buckland St Mary. Those still living in the villages kindly donated memories and memorabilia. The project website is due to be made live soon.
