Project Description

From the eighteenth century the medical role of nurses in the navy, especially the monitoring of patients for changes in symptoms, increased as medical practitioners left the bedsides of the sick. This workshop considers the role of nurses in naval medicine from 1588 to the present day. Erin Spinney explores the changing role of nurses from the 1760s to 1830, while Bernadette Quinn will outline naval nursing today.
