The Forget Never Project

'Forget Never, Oublier Jamais, Vergessen Niemals' - this was a three-part collaborative project involving communities from Basildon in England, Heiligenhaus in Germany and Meaux in France. Co-ordinated by the Basildon Borough Heritage Group, the initiative linked schools, community groups and various regional bodies with the aim of exploring how the First World War had had an impact on their townships during the conflict. The project was funded by The Heritage Lottery Fund with support from some private donations. Over its five year duration which incorporated specific elements on the Battles of the Somme and Passchendaele, the project involved in excess of one thousand people from these three twinned locations, and recruited around ninety volunteers over the course of its delivery.
