Project Description

In 2016 Lamorbey and Sidcup Local History Society was awarded £10,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund for a project called 'Sidcup's Home Front in the Great War'. The project focused on life for local residents during 1914-18 and the opening of the Queen's Hospital in 1917. We organised a one-day event called 'Sidcup's Great War: A Living Pageant' to commemorate life on the Home Front in Sidcup during WWI. This provided an exciting opportunity for the whole community, including local businesses, schools, choirs and churches, to get involved. We produced a Family Poppy Trail and an illustrated booklet, and we held an evening of story, music, drama and poetry commemorating the opening in 1917 of The Queen's Hospital for facially-injured soldiers.
