Project Description
Residents of Sandhurst will gather together with the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst at the War Memorial in Sandhurst Memorial Park to remember those who have lost their lives in conflict, in a Service of Remembrance on Sunday 09 November 2014.
The event will start at 10.45am where the Sandhurst and District Corps of Drums will lead the military and standard bearers in a march along a short section of the Yorktown Road, before turning in to the Memorial Park to form up around the War Memorial, which has received a spectacular new limestone pavestone surround to commemorate the Centenary of the First World War.
The long standing event has seen a steady increase in the number of local residents walking down to pay their respects, and to appreciate the remarkable atmosphere that is generated by the musicians within the Corps of Drums Marching Band, the Sandhurst Silver Band and the Choir of St. Michaels Church.
The event is made possible by a wide range of organisations, including local uniformed groups such as the Scouts and Guides, local schools, plus numerous sporting and recreational clubs / institutes and societies, who will be laying their wreaths to conclude the service.
The public are reminded that parking is limited on the Memorial Park during this event and walking is preferred wherever possible. Refreshments will be served before and after the event by volunteers from the Women’s Institute and the Sandhurst Museum Trust have a display of information relating to servicemen in Sandhurst. Please arrive in plenty of time and allow for the closure of Yorktown Road in front of the Memorial Park from 10.15am, which is required to support the march. A traffic diversion will be in place.
