Project Description

This commemorative project sought to research and record details of over 340 First World War soldiers who are buried or remembered in Dean Rd and Manor Rd cemetery in Scarborough. The initiative was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and enabled us to display research on our website, give talks to local groups and hold special exhibitions at events. We also had interpretation panels placed in the cemetery, and produced leaflets for members of the public who visited. This work was undertaken by the committee members, local people, members of the East Yorkshire Family History Society and local schoolchildren. The purpose of our group lies in promoting, preserving, restoring and enhancing this large Victorian cemetery located in the centre of Scarborough, North Yorkshire.
