Project Description
Initially this project began as 'RBS Remembers 1914-1918', which explored the First World War from the perspective of the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and twenty nine other banks that later became part of RBS, NatWest and our other modern-day banks. As part of the national commemoration in 2014-18 to mark the conflict's centenary, we wanted to remember and share with the public the sacrifice and service of the people of our present and predecessor banks; both the stories of those who lost their lives, and of those who contributed to, and were affected by, the war in other ways. We used records from our own archives as well as various external sources to write biographies of 1584 of our fallen colleagues. We chose to do this on a website that would be accessible to all and offered a unique, personal perspective on the war, alongside that of the thousands of other organisations and communities, both nationally and internationally, that were doing the same over the centenary period. Since 2018, we have expanded the site to include biographies of our Second World War fallen as well as a searchable database of over 300 war memorials which are in our care. Following a recent company name change, our website is now called 'NatWest Group Remembers'.
