Project Description

'Lincolnshire Remembrance' was a community heritage project which ran from 2013-2016. Volunteers from across Lincolnshire were invited to take part in recording and researching the county's war memorials in all their diverse forms, including researching and telling the stories of those named on the memorials, and learning about Lincolnshire during periods of conflict. An online searchable database of the information that was found and shared is available via our website link below. Running between 2016 and 2018, 'Memories and Memorials' was a follow-on initiative to 'Lincolnshire Remembrance'. This focused on supporting children and young people to learn about twentieth century conflict and commemoration, especially in understanding what the experience was like for Lincolnshire people caught up in it, both on the battlefront and on the home front. Our young participants researched and created memorial trails, produced digital resources, took part in visits and creative activities, interviewed veterans and civilians, and designed home front board-games. Both initiatives received support from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The photograph shows the Bourne Cenotaph in Lincolnshire.
