Project Description
The 'Home Front Dean' exhibition was held in 2014 & again in 2018. It told the story of how the First World War affected people in the Forest of Dean, exploring a range of Home Front-themed topics including working life, coal-mining, soldiers, food shortages and the impact upon family life. Through funding received by the Heritage Lottery Fund, we collaborated with around thirty members of the Forest of Dean Local History Society, who provided research and text for the exhibition. Our findings came together into a book published by the Society, titled 'The Forest at War - Life in the Forest of Dean during World War One'. This is available online and in the Dean Heritage Centre archive.
