Project Description

With the help of a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Chapel-en-le-Frith choir held three exhibitions and gave three free concerts within the local area, which featured songs from the First World War period. Some pieces were specially arranged for the occasion, including a specially commissioned song, and we produced a narrative based on information researched from contemporary local newspapers. The third concert was professionally recorded - this is available in full via the website link below, along with a transcription of the narrative. Individual tracks are also available on YouTube. Finally with the help of a local historian we produced a booklet "A Look at the Effects on Family Life in Derbyshire's High Peak During the Great War 1914-1918'. Around forty choir members were involved in delivering this commemorative project.
