Project Description

Throughout the First World War centenary, we researched the names listed on the Devoran Village War Memorial (both First and Second World War) as well as the social history of the village during the 1914-18 conflict, including the role of women and those who served as nurses. Our ongoing work is published on a dedicated blog. We also researched the names of those who served on the Roll Of Honour, which was restored during the centenary. As part of our project, we held two public talks about life in the village during the First World War, along with other community-led remembrance activities. The result of our findings led to several names being added onto the War Memorial by the Parish Council.
