Project Description
'Christleton Great War Stories' was a project that marked the centenary of the First World War and its impact on the lives of people from Christleton Parish, a village two miles south of Chester. It was funded by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Meticulously researched over fifteen months, our publication tells the stories of the selfless men and women from the parish who served during the conflict. This community project involved hundreds of participants - adults and young people - who acquired new skills in producing the book, short films, and a website. The project continues to inspire both the local parish community and a wider audience ‒ the accumulated research has resulted in the development of a village archive which now houses unique wartime photographs and documents. We received input and support from the Cheshire Military Museum, Cheshire Archives and Local Studies, Chester Heritage Centre, private archivists, as well as Christleton County High and Primary Schools, The Parish Councils in the area, St James' Church & Christleton Methodist Chapel also provided assistance.
