Project Description

A concert, "Armistice. Orkney Remembers", organised by the Orkney Lieutenancy took place on Sunday 11th November 2018 to remember those young men from Orkney who were lost during the First World War. This event involved young people from the Orkney Army and Air cadets, the Girl Guides, Scouts and Boys' Brigade, a local choir and other performers. The concert itself was shaped around three Orkney homes which suffered losses during the conflict, with the descendants of those families amongst the audience. The programme included a reading of Carol Ann Duffy’s Poem, "The Wound in Time", written for the Centenary of the Armistice. A retiring collection was made to the charity 'Help for Heroes'. Those involved gave freely of their time whilst Orkney Islands Council covered the costs of putting on the event in the local theatre.
