Description
Four kingly and knightly warriors: King Arthur, Sir Percival, King Richard Ⅰ, King Edward Ⅰ and Captain Ashton at prayer with his arms, crest and motto, regimental badge of the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry, the arms of Duchy of Cornwall and Maj Gen Sir John Inglis at prayer with his arms, crest and motto. The tracery subjects include Christ’s death on the cross, the Blessed Virgin Mary, St John the Evangelist, ladder, pincers, lance and hammer.
Inscription
To the memory of Captain Percy Ashton, M.C., who served with the 1st. & 8th. Battns. D.C.L.I. in France & Salonika 1914–1918 and died from the effects of War Service 18th. September 1934 And of his Grandfather Major General Sir John Inglis, K.C.B., Colonel of the 32nd. Regiment and who commanded the Garrison in the Siege of Lucknow 1857.
