- Description
- Mosaic shows Christ the Divine Healer on a throne wearing a crown of thorns and halo of leaves. His right hand brings new leaves from a dead tree. His left holds an orb, a scroll reading 'ECCE NOVA FACIA OMNIA' ('Behold I make all things new'), and a sheathed sword ringed by a snake resembling the rod of Aesculapius. Behind the tree is a rock surmounted by a dagger-like cross; water flows from the rock into a pool. There is a fish splashing in pool and a skull next to the pool. Imagery comes from Chapters 21 and 22 of the Apocalypse. The rod of Aesculapius is engraved on a capital above the stone frame and inscription is engraved below it.
