Description
The memorial is the design and execution on an old pupil of the school in Mr. J. W. Rowbottom, whose name appears on the roll. It is in an oak frame, and is black and white representation of two Corinthian columns standing on large stone steps and supporting a parchment, which is surmounted by a cenotaph, on which are written the names of the fallen. On an open book between the columns are the names of those who served. The ornamentation by laurel leaf, Union Jack, and guns is chaste and full, yet without overcrowding, and the designer is to be congratulated on his conception and the freedom of his pen work The names of the fallen are as follows:- Thomas Bates, James Barlow, J. G. Boothby, Hubert Benton, Tom Blythe, Lingard Carr, Albert Carter, Albert Carter. Frank Dutton, Homer Goodacre, A. E. Houlden, Arthur ?, J. R. Jessup, Clarence Kisby, Cyril Kisby, Arthur Kisby, Sidney Kirk, W. F. Lowe. Thomas Larder, Herbert Larder. Arthur ?, Hubert Marshall, Hugh Marshall, Harry Sorfleet, H. A. Scholey, Edgar R. Smith, Hubert Snart, Edwin Tayles, John Turner, Walter Woodward, George Ward, Charles Wain and Stephen Waite.
