Description
Glazed-framed hand-painted/written Roll of Honour. At top-centre is the Leith Coat of Arms and motto (Sigillum Oppidi de Leith Persevere, i.e. Seal of the town of Leith), flanked by the words "Leith Police". Beneath is a banner bearing the inscription "Roll of Honour", followed by the names of the Leith Burgh Police officers who had enlisted, annotated re those of them who died. Beneath the second column of names is the figure of an Archangel proffering an olive branch. (In the bottom right corner is the signature of the artist/calligrapher who created the Roll of Honour). N.B. The 18 former officers who this Roll of Honour indicates as having died were also commemorated on a brass plaque that hangs in Leith Police Station, see our reference 87441.
