- Description
- Two candlesticks and a cross placed on a wooden altar covered with a cloth, this has embroidered on it two Winged Pegasus', Parachute Regiment wings and the WW 2 years the regiment was active. Along side the cross is a framed explanation for the candlesticks and cross. Beneath are 4 embroidered kneelers bearing the Regimental badge of the Royal Engineers.

- Left candlestick: AD UNUM OMNES [Airborne Forces motto 'All to One End'] Cross: R.E. ARNHEM Right candlestick: UBIQUE [1st Parachute Squadron, Royal Engineers motto 'Everywhere'] Altar cloth: (Badges) 1941-1945/ 1st PARA.R.E. Framed explanation: These candlesticks and cross are made/ to represent the architecture in part of the/ Arnhem Bridge and the Parachute Regiment/ Barracks at Aldershot./ To the visitors it may seem an enigma/ to find these items on an altar in Donington/ church. This church was where many/ members of the 1st Parachute Squadron,/ Royal Engineers, took their communion/ before they parachuted into Arnhem and the/ surrounding district. The candlesticks and/ the cross were designed and made by Ian/ Bewick a Spalding Grammar School Art/ Master to glorify this sacred memorial./ The 1st Parachute Squadron, Royal/ Engineers, was based at Donington after/ returning from Italy in 1943, and left for/ Arnhem on Sunday 17th September 1944.
