Description

Cast bronze plaque mounted on to a wooden backboard. The inscription, in raised capital lettering, is flanked by a foliate border and the top corners include the emblems of the West Yorkshire Regiment and the London Regiment.

IN PROUD AND LOVING MEMORY OF/ WILLIAM CLINTON SKEET/ CAPTAIN 12TH WEST/ YORKSHIRE REGIMENT/ WHO WAS KILLED/ IN ACTION AT TILLOY/ NEAR ARRAS/ ON APRIL 9TH 1917/ AGED 24 YEARS./ JOHN RICHARD SKEET/ LIEUT 1ST BATTN 2ND LONDON/ REGIMENT WHO/ WAS KILLED AT/ HANGARD WOOD/ NEAR AMIENS ON/ APRIL 17 1918/ AGED 22 YEARS/ THIS TABLET IS PLACED HERE BY THOSE WHO LOVED/ THEM & WHOSE HEARST THEY WILL LIVE FOREVER/ NOTHING IS HERE FOR TEARS, NOTHING TO WAIL/ OR KNOCK THE BREAST.
