EDWARDS/ WHO SERVED IN THE SOUTH AFRICAN CAMPAIGN FROM 1900 TO 1902,/ AND WHO ON THE PROCLAMATION OF PEACE WAS PREPARING TO RETURN/ HOME, WHEN HE WAS SMITTEN WITH ENTERIC FEVER, AND DIED AT/ CHARLESTOWN, 15TH JUNE, 1902, IN HIS 21ST YEAR: HIS NOBLE CONDUCT WON FOR HIM THE WARMEST COMMENDATION OF HIS/ SUPERIOR OFFICERS, AND WAS TWICE MENTIONED BY THEM IS DESPATCHES: HIS COMRADES IN ARMS HELD HIM IN THE HIGHEST ESTEEM, WHILE HIS/ FRIENDS AND COMPANIONS AT HOME, WHO MISS HIS BRIGHT PRESCENCE, AND/ MOURN HIS LOSS, REMEMBER HIM AS ONE WHO WAS BELOVED BY ALL./ "TO LIVE IN HEARTS WE LEAVE BEHIND IS NOT TO DIE."/ THIS TABLET IS ERECTED BY HIS FOND PARENTS.
