THE ORIGINAL IDEA FOR THIS BOOK CAME FROM ANN GREGORY'S/ RESEARCH INTO THE WORLD WAR ONE SERVICE RECORDS OF HER/ DEAR UNCLE, WHO LOST HIS LIFE IN THAT CONFLICT./ HE WAS PRIVATE STANLEY HOLT No. 1187 OF THE ROYAL/ WARWICKSHIRE REGIMENT, 15th BATTALION (AFFECTIONATELY/ KNOWN AS THE "BIRMINGHAM PALS"). HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON/ 6th JUNE 1916 AGED ONLY 17 YEARS. HIS NAME IS INSCRIBED ON THE/ ARRAS MEMORIAL IN FRANCE. STANLEY HAS NO KNOWN GRAVE./ THIS KNOWLEDGE INSPIRED ANN, WHO IS A RESIDENT OF MARTON,/ TO RESEARCH THE LIFE STORIES OF MARTON'S FALLEN SOLDIERS/ WHOSE BRAVERY AND COURAGE HAS NEVER BEEN RECORDED./ BECAUSE OF THIS HISTORIC ARCHIVE, MUCH OF MARTON'S EARLY LIFE/ HAS BEEN UNEARTHED, AND MADE PUBLIC FOR THE FIRST TIME.
