- The Glasgow Herald of 10 October 1900 reported, under the heading 'Aberdeen University Court': - "The Court remitted to the Senatus a request on behalf of the Students' Union for permission to erect in the Union a brass tablet to the memory of the late Mr Allan Johnson, M.A., who died at the front while acting as a sergeant of the Royal Army Medical Corps."
- The Aberdeen Journal, 10 April 1901 reported: - "a tablet was raised last February [1901] in recognition of the worth of Allan Johnson, who died in South Africa in the service of his country."
