- Left Plaque: SPITFIRE SQUADRONS OF FIGHTER COMMAND/ IN THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN/ (Squadrons listed)/ They took part in the Battle of Britain in 1940, which helped to prevent the invasion of this country and the enslavement of our people./ "NEVER IN THE FIELD OF HUMAN CONFLICT, WAS SO MUCH OWED BY SO MANY, TO SO FEW"./ Presented by the Battle of Britain Historical Society Centre Plaque group (3 Plaques): Left: IN THE HOUR OF PERIL/ PEOPLE OF/ LYTHAM ST ANNES/ EARNED THE GRATITUDE/ OF THE BRITISH NATIONS/ SUSTAINING THE VALOUR OF/ THE ROYAL AIR FORCE/ AND FORTIFYING THE CAUSE/ OF FREEDOM/ BY THE GIFT OF SPITFIRE AIRCRAFT/ They shall mount up with wings as eagles/ Issued by the Ministry of Aircraft Production/ 1941 Centre: Base Air Depot No 2 (BAD2) Warton, England, was established under the/ 8th Air Force Service Command, September 5, 1942.
