- Description
- The reredos is in the form of a triptych. It has a large central section with frames extending outwards on either side supported by six carved riddel posts. Each riddel post is topped by a pedestal and a carved figurine. The three figurines on the right represent St. Michael (for the parish), St Peter (for the Diocese) and St David (for Wales) whilst those on the left represent St. George (for England), St. Patrick (for Ireland) and St Andrew (for Scotland). The upper part of the central section is made up of five richly carved and painted panels, one of which The whole reredos is surmounted by a frieze of gilded fretwork having a motif of vines along the central Below each inscription panel is a brass rod with a riddel suspended from it. The riddels are cream and white brocade with fleur-de-lys motifs in metallic thread. On the central section of the reredos there is a small brass memorial plate with a dedication inscription in italic capitals and lower case.
