an open free standing scuplture in the shape of a beech tree with Silhouettes of figures manning a field gun, an aeroplane, and a warship.
Inscription
THE BEECH LEAVES / THIS ARTWORK WAS CREATED AND INSTALLED TO COMMEMORATE THE CENTENARY OF THE START OF THE FIRST WORLD WAR / ....... / 1: THIS LEAF REPRESENTS THE ROLE THAT MEN AND MACHINERY PLAYED IN THE FIRST WORLD WAR / THE COVENTRY BI-PLANE WAS MANUFACTURED IN THE COVENTRY ORDNANCE WORKS AND IT WAS UNIQUE FOR THE WAY ITS WINGS STACKED ABOVE THE OTHER / THE GUN, A 4.5 INCH HOWIZTER, WAS ALSO DESIGNED BY COVENTRY ORDNANCE WORKS AND HAD A MAXIMUM RANGE OF 7,300 YARDS (6,675 METRES) / THE SHIP IS HMS IRON DUKE. / THIS BATTLESHIP WAS NAMED IN HONOUR OF ARTHUR WELLESLEY, THE FIRST DUKE OF WELLINGTON / THE SHIP SERVED AS THE FLAGSHIP OF THE GRAND FLEET DURING THE FIRST WORLD WAR AND FOUGHT AT THE BATTLE OF JUTLAND IN 1916. 2: THIS LEAF SHOWS THE DIFFERENT JOBS UNDERTAKEN BY WOMEN WHOSE ROLES CHANGED DRASTICALLY WHILST THE MEN WERE AWAY AT WAR.
