- Aberdeen Press and Journal - Tuesday 14 June 1921 www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000576/19210614/027/0003 GOURDON MEMORIAL. UNYEILED BY MAJOR RIDDOCH, STONEHAVEN. In presence of a large gathering from the surrounding district, the Gourdon War Memorial was unveiled on Sunday. Mr James H. Johnston, headmaster, introduced Major Riddoch, Stonehaven, who unveiled the monument. The Rev. Mr Johnston, Parish Church, and the Rev. D. M. Bailhe, United Free Church, took charge of the religious part of the ceremony. At the close the "Flowers of the Forest" was played by a piper, and the "Last Post" sounded, and the company joined in singing the National Anthem. The monument, occupies a prominent position in William Street. The inscription and the names of the fallenon the memorial are as follows: — "To the memory and in honour of the men from Gourdon who gave their Lives for their country in the struggle for righteousness and freedom in the great war of nations — 1914-1918." (names)
